Dehumidification unit with liquid desiccant material

The experimental setup consists of a non-adiabatic dehumidifier and a regenerator with a plate heat exchanger

The term non-adiabatic is used to indicate that there is exchange of energy between this arrangement and the surroundings; i.e., there is thermal interaction with cold water coming from a cooling tower and introduced into the dehumidifier through a plate heat exchanger.

Operating Principle

The experimental results show that the air dehumidification rate for the experimental system ranges from 6.99 to 11.90 kg of water/hour, depending on the external conditions and the operating conditions of the unit. The air humidification rate (regenerator) ranges from 3.55 to 12.21 kg of water/hour. The energy consumption associated with the regenerator ranges from 6.93 kWh to 26.22 kWh. The required hot water temperature ranges from 46.11oC to 72.86oC. Even with hot water temperatures at 46.11oC, the air humidification rate is at satisfactory levels, of the order of 3.55 kg water/hour.
