Rogdakis Emmanouil, Koronaki Irene, Komninos Neofytos
Tziolas Publications (2022)
ISBN-13: 9789604189519

The book deals focuses on the fundamental principles of Thermodynamics of Pure Substances, i.e. the First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics, ideal gases, ideal thermodynamic cycles of ideal gases, the operation of Stirling and Ericsson external combustion engines, thermodynamic potential and thermodynamic properties relationships, the equations of state for real gases, the thermodynamic properties of fluids with emphasis on vapor pressure equations, water vapor theory and Rankine cycle analysis, exergy, compressible fluid theory, air conditioning and very low temperature refrigeration cycles, and thermodynamics of aircraft propulsion systems and spacecraft.

The book offers detailed and clear explanations of each concept and method introduced, accompanied by carefully selected examples and applications, emphasizing on those topics in which students usually experience difficulties. A wide variety of modern examples and applications have been selected from the fields of heat and power generation systems as well as applications related directly or indirectly to low temperature power generation. It should be noted that Applied Thermodynamics of Pure Substances is intended for undergraduate and postgraduate students of Polytechnic and Applied Science Schools, but also for anyone interested in studying the principles of Thermodynamics. Especially for the students of the NTUA’s Schools of Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering, and Electrical & Computer Engineering, the book is provided free of charge through EUDOXUS.

Applied Thermodynamics of Mixtures

Rogdakis Emmanouil, Komninos Neofytos
Tziolas Publications (2020)
ISBN-13: 9789604188550

The book «Applied Thermodynamics of Mixtures» is primarily intended for undergraduate and postgraduate students in technological and applied studies; It is also specifically provided free of charge to undergraduate students of NTUA’s School of Mechanical Engineering through EUDOXUS.

The book focuses on the thermodynamic properties of mixtures to offer comprehensive insight in the basic technical properties of mixtures (absorption, throttling, blending and separation) as well as the fundamental principles guiding the operation of installations utilized for such purposes. Emphasis is placed on industrial applications and the utilization of mixtures to produce refrigeration in absorption refrigeration systems. The geometric/manufacturing approach is adopted to develop the concepts analysed.

The book comprises ten chapters of which chapters 1-6 form the theoretical basis for the thermodynamic description of mixtures, chapters 7 and 8 feature technical applications, and chapters 9 and 10 concern the thermodynamic properties of liquid-liquid, liquid-solid and solid-solid mixtures as well as the properties of real gas mixtures and normal solutions.

The book features accompanying diagrams of the properties of ammonia-water mixture (enthalpy-concentration and temperature-concentration) and lithium bromide-water mixture (enthalpy-concentration) utilized in thermodynamic analysis and the technical calculations for absorption refrigeration systems or other systems utilizing the abovementioned mixtures (such as the Kalina cycle). A diagram for the classification of liquid mixtures that follow the three-suffix Margules model is also provided.

Refrigeration – Air-conditioning of Buildings and Industrial Applications

Koronaki Ir., Antonakos G., Dalavouras D., Dalavouras P.
Tziolas Publications
ISBN 978-960-418-526-9

The book “Refrigeration – Air-conditioning of Buildings and Industrial Applications” constitutes a handbook including all data required to calculate, design, and build cooling and air conditioning systems in residential and service sector buildings as well as for industrial applications in the food, pharmaceutical, shipping industries etc.

The book features practical orientation including applications and detailed calculations based on data and methodologies proposed in International Standards and ASHRAE Manuals (American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers).

The book comprises eighteen chapters, of which chapters 1-7 lay the theoretical basis of calculation methods for cooling and refrigeration loads aiming at thermal comfort and air quality by studying the changes on the psychrometric chart as well as the new refrigerants used in cooling and refrigeration systems and their properties. Chapters 8-11 contain the descriptions of central air conditioning units, air distribution systems and terminal units. Chapters 12-18 feature the presentation and analysis of systems used in industrial applications to produce refrigeration in the food industry, low temperatures for liquefaction of fluids utilized in the pharmaceutical industry and in energy applications while the final sections present refrigeration and air conditioning applications for passenger and merchant ships.
